There are not many comparisons between the sports of football and darts.

But that doesn’t mean footballers can’t use darts as an opportunity to prove they can be very funny.

Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose took that to new levels at the PDC World Championship last night.

The Spurs full backs, who were clearly enjoying a bit of festive bonding time, produced the best signs we have seen at Alexandra Palace for a long time.

Well in a football sense anyway.

If there was a competition for the best sign at the darts, Trippier surely won it.

But Rose wasn’t far behind.

Trippier had the spectators in tears with a pointed reference to one of Spurs’ top-four rivals.

The former Burnley man’s sign was a cheeky message to his previous manager Sean Dyche and you have to congratulate on him on having the cajones to throw some banter Dyche’s way.

Trippier’s sign read “Ginger Mourinho = Sean Dyche”, classic.

With the way he has got the Clarets playing this season, most recently clinching a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, it is no surprise Dyche cannot shake off the ‘Ginger Mourinho’ tag.

After Harry Kane scored yet another hat trick against Southampton, that’s eight for the year, Rose tried to take all the glory for the striker’s achievements this year.

Not only did Kane break Alan Shearer’s record for the most Premier League goals in a calendar, yes that’s a thing, he also ended 2017 as the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues – finishing ahead of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest.

So Rose scribbled “Harry Kane learned it all from me!! Thank me later. Well done.”

We like to see this kind of banter from the Spurs boys.

We really do.
