Manchester United’s FA Cup tie with Derby will not be shown on TV for the first time in 12 YEARS

Stop what you’re doing this is big.

It involves Man United, the FA Cup and a 12-year run on TV.

We hope all of West Brom’s games are broadcast live

The third round draw of the FA Cup threw up a home tie for United against the Championship’s Derby County.

However, it is not the most exciting match of the round when you consider there is a Merseyside derby to contend with and the ‘M23 derby’.

Sorry, I mean Brighton v Crystal Palace of course.

According a report in the Telegraph, TV bosses have decided not to televise the Red Devils v the Rams in a ‘shock omission’.

That will bring to an end United’s run of 58 televised FA Cup matches being broadcast consecutively.

It’s taken 12 years but it looks like a 3rd round game at home to Reading last year may have been the nail in the coffin.

The last time United in the FA Cup wasn’t on TVReuters

There was criticism from fans that United v Reading at home was a flat fixture, especially when the mighty Sutton United’s clash with AFC Wimbledon.

The last time TV executives dared not to show United in the FA Cup was a surprise goalless home draw against non-league Exeter City.

There you have it, we have pretty much confirmed United are in for an upset now that they won’t be on TV, maybe.

The BBC and BT will broadcast the round of games, starting with Liverpool v Everton on Friday 5 January.

Another exciting announcement about this round of fixtures is that Brighton v Palace will be the first time Video Assistant Referees (VARs) are used in an FA Cup game.

That is very exciting indeed.

VAR has had teething issues in its introduction to Serie A, with critics claiming there are still wrong decisions and it’s time-heavy.

But for England and the FA to be moving with the times is monumental

The Merseyside derby was decided to have too much passion and profile to host a live-trial of VAR.

Is this the beginning of an England-wide roll-out?

We can hope.
