After Wenger announced he was leaving Arsenal at the end of the season a couple of weeks ago, this became not only his last game at Old Trafford but also his last ever showdown with nemesis Jose Mourinho.

And even Mourinho was involved prior to kick off, joining Sir Alex Ferguson in honouring Wenger.

Iconic trio of the season

The three greatest managers in Premier League history, all in one place.

That followed a rousing standing ovation for the wily Gunners boss from the Old Trafford crowd too.

Given Wenger’s historic rivalry with United down the years it was a heartwarming moment for one of English football’s great visionaries.

And the fans absolutely loved it:

United's treatment of Wenger is pure class. Rivalry and respect can live side by side.

Lovely to see Sir Alex and Wenger embrace before kick off. Both managers made the PL what it is today. Once, a great rivalry. Now, a friendship.
