Fantasy football: 5 current players make our top 20 highest points scorers ever

Fantasy football has been entertaining us for years.

The likes of Mo Salah and Harry Kane have dominated the scoring this season, with the Egyptian becoming only the second man ever to break the 400-point barrier in a single campaign.

But historically they’re both well behind some of the highest scoring players in the Dream Team record books.

Frank Lampard is officially the leading man – and by some distance – with 3627 points with the former Chelsea inspiration a regular goalscorer for 15 years at the highest level.

The likes of Steven Gerrard (3rd), Thierry Henry (8th) and Robin van Persie (15th) all make the top 20 too.

But there are also five active Premier League players in that top 20.

Even two years away from the Premier League couldn’t stop Fabregas making the cut.

He’s been going since he was 16, his assist record is phenomenal and his latest Star Man award came against Swansea just last weekend.

Sergio Aguero – 13th (1820 points) Sergio Aguero will be a miss but should be fit for the second legAguero’s consistency down the years has been phenomenalGetty - Contributor

Mr Man City, Aguero’s relentless scoring rate in the last seven years puts him above the likes of Van Persie.

Despite his ongoing injury issues he’s still currently fourth in the standings this season too.

Jermaine Defoe – 12th (1853 points) Jermain Defoe is mobbed after his last-gasp point-saver at WatfordDon’t give this man space in the boxReuters

Defoe’s knack for poaching hasn’t seemed to wane at all even in his latter years.

Has just the 30 points this season at Bournemouth but was prolific even for relegated Sunderland last campaign.

Longevity doesn’t even do Barry justice, with the stalwart officially the longest serving current player on Dream Team.

He became the all-time Premier League appearance record holder this season – but with West Brom staring down the barrel of relegation it could be the last we see of him.

Wayne Rooney – 2nd (3143 points) More points than hairs on his headAFP or licensors

He’s slowed down in recent seasons but Rooney in his pomp was simply a Dream Team must have.

Racked up a whopping 370 points in the 2006/07 season but is well shy of Lampard’s record total score.
