What’s the point in beating Manchester City if you can’t beat Swansea?

That’s the question every Liverpool fan will be asking tonight, following their result against the Premier League’s bottom side.

The Reds fell to a 1-0 defeat against the relegation favourites thanks to Alfie Mawson’s first-half strike, resulting in Jurgen Klopp’s first loss since October.

Liverpool certainly didn’t have their scoring boots on this evening, despite boasting the goal-scoring threat of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

The second-highest scorers in the Premier League this season wasted a number of chances against the Swans, attempting 21 shots – with only four on target.

And their biggest and best chance came right at the death, when they looked nailed-on to score a late equaliser.

In a frantic moment in stoppage time, Virgil Van Dijk picked out Firmino with a lovely cross from just inside the box.

But the free-scoring Brazilian fired his header off the inside of the post, before the ball fell to Adam Lallana – who somehow smashes his shot over the bar from almost point-blank range.

Van Dijk spots Firmino near the far post And he crosses it in beautifully for the Brazilian But his header cannons off the post And falls to Lallana, who’s only yards away from an open goal But he smashes the chance high over the bar

They can’t quite believe it.

The result has made things very interesting at the bottom of the table, with Swansea now level on points with West Brom, while just six points now separate the bottom 11 teams.

The incredibly likeable Carlos Carvalhal has picked up seven points in his four games in charge of the club, while fourth-placed Liverpool are still three points behind Chelsea.
